Wedding Favors: Because Your Guests are Dear to You

You will find very few events as celebrated as that of a wedding day.  It symbolizes a new start for two people who, through marriage, become one.  Friends, relatives and well-wishers all make an effort to celebrate this special moment with the couple, and the new husband and wife show their thanks for their presence and support by giving small gifts called wedding favors.

Wedding favors date back to aristocratic Europe when couples provided their guests precious small boxes containing (then pricey) sugar cubes or other fine confections.  The custom had then spread, with concepts consistently growing over time, until it had become an indispensable element of a wedding feast.  Nowadays, it’s not uncommon to find and get unique wedding favors or common ones prepared in unique ways.

Because of the variety of designs currently available in the market, with competition for new concepts very high among manufacturers, couples can now select from a wide selection of items and find the perfect one that suits their taste and budget.  But if you and your fiancé are searching for the best one for your nuptial, you must not let yourself be restricted to what is being sold.  If you so choose, you can come up with a unique wedding favor of your own – on your own.

The easiest items from which you can obtain your ideas are the traditional ones – edible items such as almonds, candies and chocolates.  These tasty goodies can be prepared, presented, and packaged in a variety of ways.  You can also opt for the longer-lasting jams and preserves, or other alternatives like truffles, cakes, tea bags, coffee packs, or other local delicacies.

If you want wedding favors that would last longer than food items, you can base your concepts on other usual items such as candles.  These come in lots of sizes, forms, styles, and colors and you can purchase them either ready-made or custom-made.  Or you can design your own mould and produce them yourself.

Another basic item from which you can get your unique idea is greenery.  You can give out packets of seeds, seedlings, or little plants to your guests.

Ideas of your very own unique wedding favors are practically limitless.  Your imagination and creativity are your only restriction.  But remember to evaluate the time you will take on doing them as well as the amount you will spend on raw materials.  Sometimes, simply buying from a specialty store would prove to be more time-consuming and cost-effective.
