Ways to use yellow
Oh, yellow. How I love you and simultaneously , sometimes hate you . In fact , I’m really obsessed with specific types of yellows. It is such a difficult color to work with. One of those projects or ideas that can go awry quite fast . My dining room is painted a very specific shade of mustard yellow. It took a few tries to create just the right shade (much to the dismay of my husband). Most avert the entire yellow subject totally . I think it is because they are secretly afraid of it. I mean, when have you ever seen a colour that can be a neutral, a warm tone, a bright tone, a neon tone, or a rustic tone….what versatility you have, yellow! now I would like to address this very often avoided issue. Let’s talk yellow. When to use what shades.
Yellow with a red undertone: -this shade of yellow is quite welcoming and warm. Great for use in a large room on a wall or piece of furniture.
Yellow with a blue undertone: -This is a tricky shade. And yet, it can be so fabulous. This color is better used on small accessories or furnishings.
Bright Yellow: -Keep out of bedrooms and offices- they can make it hard to relax &/or concentrate.
Pale yellow: -Great neutral. Works most places, just make sure you use other contrasting tones so the room doesn’t turn into an easter egg. A nice buttery yellow is most pleasant.
Neon yellow: -I don’t advocate the use of this color in any place except for in a highlighter. And even then, I would rather use a different color. But if you must use it…stick to studying with it.
Now you have my thoughts. It’s up to you what you do with it! But please folks, let’s keep the neon yellow at home.
