Grapefruit can be Enjoyed by your Family

Try asking a child if they would like a grapefruit. In all likelihood, they will make a sour face, cringe or maybe even go running from your view. Although kids seem to love other citrus treats like oranges juice or lemonade, try offering them a glass of grapefruit juice and they just might gag. So what are some ways to eat grapefruit that your family will actually like?

Believe it or not, there are plenty of ways to eat grapefruit that are kid-friendly. And, dare we say it, they might actually be considered as fun, too! One of the easiest ways to get a child to eat grapefruit is to make ice pops out of them. Simply take some grapefruit juice (freshly squeezed or from the market will both do) and pour them into ice cube trays or ice pop containers. Wait until they freeze and you will have a thirst-quenching, tart snack that your kids will love.

We can learn new ways to eat grapefruit by watching kid friendly films. In the classic movie “Mary Poppins” (which is a big family favorite), one of the ways to eat medicine was to do so with a spoonful of sugar. Well, one of the best ways to eat grapefruit for kids is also with a spoonful of sugar! Just add a small amount to peeled and skinned grapefruits and watch the sour face on your children turn to one of delight with their new sweet yet still healthy treat.

Sometimes, in order to find a way to eat grapefruit with your kids, you might have to act just a wee bit sneaky. For instance, your kids may like to eat things in the morning that require butter, like toast, English muffins or biscuits. Flavored butters are a great way to add a little zip to your morning routine without sacrificing taste. Citrus butters like those with orange or lemon in them are increasing in popularity. So why not add some grapefruit to them? Just a pinch of zest from the peel is a great way to eat grapefruit without your kids even knowing it.

Of course, one way to eat grapefruit that is super simple is simply to add or dilute it in other products. A suggestion is to add some grapefruit to your kids morning orange juice, or make a fruit salad and include some slices of peeled grapefruit.  With so many ways to add grapefruit to your kids daily diet, there is no reason not to.
