A large volume of information has been compiled and claimed by the National Research Council or NRC ( a division of National Academy of Science of the United States). The material entitled “Nutrient Requirements of Dogs” was published in a nearly complete review. This report confirms the minimum amount of each nutrient needed to maintain the health of the average adult dog, as well as the requirements for growing puppies.
The majority of dog food manufacturers trust the research so they rely on it before formulating a new dog food product. In fact, in order for a dog food to be certified as “complete” in the United States, it must meet or go beyond all of the NRC and must pass particular feeding tests on dogs.
Canines are technically defined as meat consumers, or carnivores. But aside from this fact, their system can also tolerate other kinds of food in large variances so they can satisfy every requirement their body demands. Most of the time, the labels on dog foods are not similar from each other if you happen to spend time carefully reading on it. It is, therefore, very difficult to determine which food is best for your dog. To assist you decide, I recommend that you seek the advice of your breeder and your veterinarian. They may suggest dissimilar but related things: the breeder would talk about the recommended for your dog’s mother (same with the Golden’s) whereas the vet will tell you things based on his other clients’ encounters in feeding their respective dogs. The suggestions your vet will provide is determined by on the dog’s health status.
As you’re able to probably guess by now, I strongly urge all dog owners to use a high-quality commercial dog food. Giving the dog table scraps won’t aid to evaluate if he is getting the proper amount of nutrients – if he’s getting excessive or too small of those. In doing this, much more budgets are exhausted and certainly inefficient.
