Sikkim’s cuisine actually is not much different from the cuisine of some of the other eastern states of India–and to some extent–from the rest of India. Rice is the staple food of the local people. Depending on their availability, meat and dairy products are also enjoyed. Actually, a sizable section of population of the state is non vegetarian. Apart from consuming non vegetarian food, a variety of traditional fermented foods and beverages are also prepared and much relished by the local people.
