When a loved one of the Jewish faith has a first-degree relative pass away, they begin the one-week long mourning process known as shiva. When they gather in a home with other members of their family and receive consolation from visitors, these persons are prohibited by their faith to prepare food for themselves on the first day. While neighbors, friends, or Jewish burial societies may provide this food for both the mourners and their visitors, it can also be provided by a respectful and knowledgeable caterer who understands the customs of the Jewish faith.
