As you may know the national dish of Jamaica is saltfish and ackee. This is basically salted cod which is sautéed, and then mixed with boiled ackee, the later being a type of fruit. Peppers, tomatoes and onions as well as herbs are also usually added to the dish. Other well-known Jamaican dishes include “jerk”, which is meat marinaded in a mix of fiery spices and then cooked on a grill, curried goat meat, and “rice and peas”, which is rice cooked with coconut milk and mixed with legumes (the type of legumes may vary, but red kidney beans are particularly popular).
