When somebody talks about environmentally sustainable seafood they are referring to the active practice of avoiding overfishing, habitat damage or disruption, or water pollution when fishing on a commercial level. Alaskan seafood sets the industry standard in this regard as they work under strict restrictions, constantly taking precautionary measures towards resource management in their waters. Consequently, the idea is that fishing can continue but only when ecosystems are protected against and long-term damage is minimized or banished altogether.
